Rural Land: Righting The Wrongs

Land is one of the most contentious issues in China today. The key problem is that the ownership and transfer of land-use property rights remain vaguely defined and open to rampant corruption.

CEQ evaluates efforts to give China’s farmers secure property rights over their land, examines the related issue of the government’s new rural policy, enshrined in a recent State Council policy document, explains China’s chaotic urban land and real estate markets, and assesses whether urban real estate markets are in a speculative bubble.
